Arya Satheesh, an 18-year-old student from Ireland, has been recognized as the European Winner of The Earth Prize 2026, one of the world’s leading environmental innovation competitions for young changemakers.

Her award-winning innovation, Eco Purge, is a plant-based biodegradable plastic designed to address the growing challenge of microplastic pollution. As the material naturally decomposes, it gradually releases specially engineered enzymes that help break down existing microplastics in soil and water. The innovation aims to combine sustainable materials with environmental restoration, offering a fresh perspective on tackling plastic pollution.

Arya’s achievement demonstrates how scientific research, innovation, and environmental responsibility can come together to create solutions with global impact. Her work also highlights the increasing role of young innovators in developing technologies that contribute to a more sustainable future.
